Hello I am Aunt Rebecca the oldest living relative of the Whaley Family I was told I was born 1751 not sure my birth it was documented in the Bible left by the woman who raised me on Mista Whaley Plantation. Mista wanted all of us to have proper names so he gave us him last name. I born 10 children some left me soon as they was able to work the land. So I guess that make them be around 8 or something. One day I pray before I leave I see my children again. I still can remember the cries as I had to stand and watch them be carried off somewheres. There cries stay in my dreams at night. That was many years ago. Now I just sit and rest while dreams come to me how life was back then and now. I don't have much but Miss Lilly, Mistas second wife she gave me my papers tell me I am free to go live in my own place now. Mista gave us this house it set just below his big house that sits on the big hill with promise that we still be willing to work his land. It not big but room enough for me and rest of my kin who stay here with me, there is Seven of us here now. Today Willow my sistas, daughter youngest left for schooling it is a proud day.
Thank you Jess I am still working on her I decided she need to have on shoes so I am redoing her legs and making some with boots. I will have them done on Monday I am taking a break whew I worked on her for 3 days. Peace and Blessings Cheryl..Snatch JOY~!
Aunt Rebecca...you have taken lifes hardships and turn them into your strenghts. What a blesssing you are to us all. There is something to be said at looking at our past, it is there we find our spirit...Your Cheryl has certainly captured that in her story and in creating you today...Wow...blessings msx
Dear Cheryl, I have so enjoyed reading the story of Aunt Rebecca. It takes us back to a simpler time, yet a very hard life for some. The doll is beautiful, and your creative writing makes her even more so! A super talent! Enjoy your weekend, Christel
Samm and Christel thank you so much this is one of the reason why I love making the dolls I do I feel there is spirit telling to tell a story of someone long ago. From my dolls I get to tell their stories. I think about how those times were and yes it was such a simpler time and yet the times were hard and some had many struggles most of them made it through and passed on a something to all of us.
Enjoy your weekend Ladies Peace and Blessings Cheryl..Snatch JOY~!
I am enjoying the stories that come with your girls. Aunt Rebecca is beautiful and so are the girls. I love the repro colonial fabric. It is perfect for the girls.
Cheryl, Aunt Rebecca's story is heart wrenching. The part about the children being carried off. I just can't imagine the pain these brave people endured. Aunt Rebecca is just beautiful!!
